Jetboil MiniMo Review: Our Favorite Camping Stove
The Jetboil MiniMo was one of the first pieces of camping gear we bought after our first camping trip. We'd spent a cold, windy evening trying to boil water over an open campfire with a cheap pot, and making coffee turned into far more work than it should have been. When we got home, upgrading our camping kitchen jumped near the top of the shopping list.
After plenty of research, we settled on the MiniMo. There are smaller backpacking stoves and larger camp stoves, but this one struck the right balance for the way we camp. It's light enough to carry on overnight backpacking trips, yet just as handy for car camping. I also appreciate how compact it is. The burner, pot, and a small fuel canister all nest together into one tidy package that doesn't take up much space.
The MiniMo has consistently boiled water in about three minutes for us, and the adjustable flame is nice when you want more control than simply bringing water to a rolling boil. The one-liter pot is the perfect size for freeze-dried meals, ramen, or making coffee for two. Measurement markings inside the pot make it easy to add the right amount of water, and the insulated folding handles stay comfortable to hold even when everything is hot.
Over the years we've used it in hot and cold weather, from low elevations to mountain camps, and it's been remarkably reliable. The built-in igniter occasionally needs a little help in strong wind, but shielding it or lighting it manually has always solved the problem.
The Jetboil MiniMo is still one of the first things that goes into our camping bin. Whether we're making coffee before sunrise or heating dinner after a long day on the trail, it's fast, dependable, and one piece of gear we've never regretted buying.
